This year we have been able to purchase all of Omar’s very limited quality. Because of the confidence he has a buyer for his product, he has been able to make the necessary investments to improve his quality even further. Thanks to all of our lovely customers who supported this by purchasing his vanilla and who made this happen. Omar is super proud to present to you this years crop. The quality is truly exceptional, and instead of extract grade vanilla, this year he produces the most oil rich grade A vanilla beans. In these grade A vanilla pods you can find notes of cacao, praliné and rum.

Limited stock, so once gone you will need to wait another year!

Flavour Notes:

Cacao- Praliné- Rum

Description

Omar’s farm is situated deep inside Unguja’s countryside and one needs to hike up to his farm since  the terrain is too difficult to drive by car. His farm is located on the rolling hills of central Unguja, where hundreds of old mango trees can be found as well as plenty of coconut trees. Omar always wanted to grow vanilla but was never able to afford to buy vanilla plants due to their price. One day whilst wandering amongst some old ruins in the forest, he came across a wild vanilla plant. He decided to take a cutting with him, and now he has over 100 vanilla plants derived from this 1 cutting. Unlike most commercial vanilla farms, his vanilla plants are mainly grown on his mango trees and he noticed they grow much better than on other trees. We can attest that his vanilla plants are the most impressive we have ever seen!
We were lucky to be able to purchase his first crop ever and we would love to support Omar and his family over the years. They learned how to process their vanilla by watching youtube videos and are still honing their skills. His son Saeed pollinates every single vanilla flower by hand. Buying these vanilla beans will support this family and allow them to continue to perfect their vanilla. We truly believe that in the near future his vanilla will be world class!

In these grade A vanilla pods you can find notes of cacao, praliné and rum.

  1. Beautiful succulent vanilla pods

  2. Very prompt delivery. Having smelled them at a friends, decided that they were perfect Christmas Gifts and a way of supporting people in the Global South who are more vulnerable to the global heating we in the West with are causing.

Q & A

What is the shelf life of wild vanilla beans? Janice Ross asked on March 16, 2024

Dear Janice,

The aroma of the vanilla bean will mature over time, but depending on how you store it, it might loose some moisture. This is generally no issue, as you can just infuse the vanilla a little bit longer. I would keep them for around 1 year, or keep them in a jar of sugar they will keep indefinitely + you will get vanilla sugar as well. Hope this helps!
