Mchaichai is the Swahilli word for lemongrass, and chai is…well…chai! So put the two together and you get surprise surprise: Lemongrass Chai! By now you’re probably wondering how these two can go together? Well, they do, and really well actually! This lemongrass variant of masala chai has been gaining a lot of popularity recently in Zanzibar and so we wanted to share it with you too.

Mchaichai Chai

Mchaichai is the Swahilli word for lemongrass, and chai is…well…chai! But you’re probably wondering how these two can go together? Well, they do, and really well actually! This variant of masala chai has been gaining a lot of popularity recently in Zanzibar and so we wanted to share it with you too. Our Mitakawani hand cut lemongrass is paired with our high mountain Tanzanian black tea and a hint of spice, making it a very mild but aromatic introduction to the world of chai. Try it, we’re sure you’ll understand the hype!

 

Ingredients: CTC black tea, lemongrass, cinnamon, cardamom

 

Directions:

  • Place milk and water into your cooking pot
  • Add chai blend
  • Bring to a boil while whisking. Let it boil for 1-5 minutes depending on your preference on taste of strength
  • Turn off heat, strain your chai and add sweetener to your liking
  • Stir and enjoy!
