Zanzibar Nutmeg

£6.50

Description

Known for its warm, nutty flavour, this Zanzibar nutmeg is an organic, single origin spice grown by our partner smallholder farmers in Mitakawani village.

Zanzibar Nutmeg from Mitakawani Village

This Zanzibar nutmeg is harvested from mature trees scattered throughout Mitakawani village, where they also provide essential shade for the local community.

When the fruit is opened, it reveals the bright red mace wrapped around the outer shell of the nutmeg. Both are carefully sun-dried until the nut develops a characteristic rattle inside its shell, a sign it is ready to use.

How to use whole nutmeg
To access the nutmeg, gently crack the outer shell using your hand or a utensil such as a spoon. Inside, you will find the whole nut, ready to be freshly grated.

Do not discard the mace. This delicate red layer can be used in desserts, puddings and sweet dishes, adding a warm, aromatic depth.

Freshly grated nutmeg is perfect for mashed potatoes, creamy sauces, roasted vegetables and grilled meats. Its versatility also makes it ideal for baking and spiced drinks.

A truly versatile and aromatic spice, this Mitakawani nutmeg brings depth and warmth to both sweet and savoury recipes.

The complex flavour notes of this product include:
Zesty Lemon - Frankincense - Molasses
