Zanzibar Cinnamon Leaves from Mitakawani Village

In the heart of Mitakawani village, known for its exceptional spices, grows a hidden gem: cinnamon leaves. Sweeter and more aromatic than traditional bay leaves, these leaves carry the warm, subtle essence of true cinnamon.

When steeped in hot water, cinnamon leaves create a naturally fragrant cinnamon leaf tea, offering a soothing and gently spiced infusion. Rich in flavour, they reveal notes of molasses, bay and layered herbal warmth, making them a versatile ingredient for both drinks and cooking.

These leaves are a natural by-product of our Zanzibar cinnamon trees. As the bark is carefully harvested, the leaves are also collected, supporting a more sustainable approach and ensuring our partner farmers in Mitakawani make full use of every tree.

In traditional Zanzibari cooking, cinnamon leaves are added to pilau rice, biryani and slow-cooked stews, where they infuse dishes with a delicate herbal depth and warm aroma. They are perfect for adding a subtle, distinctive flavour that elevates everyday recipes.

The complex flavour notes of this product include:
Molasses - Bay leaf - Herbal

Zanzibar Cinnamon Leaves?

Our spices come from small villages and subsistence farmers. With us you won’t find any large scale, orderly rows of monoculture spice plants. Instead, you will find our spices growing between the banana and jackfruit trees which the farmers use to feed themselves and their families.
