A pilau rice recipe that is easy to make and plant based made from single origin spices. Best served with our chai tea!
This is a wonderfully aromatic pilau rice recipe. It’s almost too good just to designate it as a “side” so let it take centre stage at the dinner table! It is also best served with our chai tea!
This recipe uses not one … but four of Ujamaa Spice single origin spices: ground turmeric, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks & whole cloves
If you’re looking for a speedy, fool-proof but incredibly tasty rice recipe then this is it!
I use a specific microwave “rice-pot” to make this but don’t worry if you don’t have one, simply use a microwave-safe bowl covered in cling film that has been pierced a few times
Serves 2-3
Ingredients:
* 1 tbspn vegetable oil
* 70g white onion ( approx 1/2 an onion )
* 6 Ujamaa Spice cardamom pods
* 1 Ujamaa Spice cinnamon stick
* 1/2 tsp Ujamaa Spice ground turmeric
* 200g basmati rice
* 1 vegetable stock cube
* 450ml boiling water
Instructions:
- Chop the onion and add to a microwaveable rice pot along with the oil, cloves, cardamom pods, turmeric and cinnamon stick
- Microwave on full power for 1 minute then remove and stir before returning it to the microwave for another 1 minute
- dissolve the stock cube in the boiling water
- Add the stock and rice to the onions and spices and microwave on full power until the rice is cooked and the water has been absorbed – this will take approximately 12 minutes depending on the wattage of your microwave
- Serve immediately
