Zanzibar Turmeric

£6.50

Description

Our award-winning Zanzibar turmeric is zesty, earthy and full of character. This single origin turmeric is grown organically by our partner women’s cooperative in Kibeni village, delivering a rich, concentrated flavour and vibrant colour.

See what the Great Taste Award judges had to say:

“This is deeply aromatic and assertive turmeric. It may not be the brightest in colour or flavour, but it is remarkably characterful, with an unusual orange hue and a concentrated profile. Earthy, slightly bitter and medicinal, it certainly leaves an impression.”

Zanzibar Turmeric from Kibeni Women’s Cooperative

Grown in the village of Kibeni on the northern tip of Unguja, this Zanzibar turmeric is produced by an inspiring group of women farmers working small plots of land near their homes. For many, turmeric is a vital source of income, yet declining yields and limited access to organic compost have made farming increasingly challenging.

These women put immense care into cultivating their turmeric, and every purchase helps support more sustainable practices, including access to organic fertilisers and the ability to restore their soil.

The landscape around Kibeni is hot and dry, with deep orange soil that is reflected in the turmeric itself. While the roots are smaller in size, they are highly concentrated, delivering vibrant colour and intense flavour.

This turmeric is grown using traditional mixed farming methods, alongside crops such as banana, plantain and yams. There is no industrial monoculture here, only small-scale, authentic farming that prioritises quality and sustainability.

Perfect for curries, this turmeric adds rich colour and depth of flavour. It can also be blended into smoothies for a natural boost or used to make a warming turmeric latte with cinnamon, ginger and black pepper.

The complex flavour notes of this product include:
Seville Orange - Autumn Leaves - Jasmine

  1. There is no comparison – none! – with the yellow dust you buy elsewhere. This is fragrant, fresh and subtle.

  2. Great for using every day as an anti inflammatory
