Zanzibar Ceylon Cinnamon

£6.50

Description

Woody with a subtle natural sweetness, this Zanzibar ceylon cinnamon is a single origin spice grown organically by our partner smallholder farmers in Kidichi village, offering a smooth and aromatic flavour for both sweet and savoury dishes.

Zanzibar Ceylon Cinnamon from Kidichi Cooperative

This Zanzibar cinnamon is grown in what were once the private spice gardens of Sultan Seyyid Said, now cultivated by smallholder farmers in Kidichi. The cinnamon trees grow in a dense, natural forest alongside clove, jackfruit and rambutan, creating a rich and diverse ecosystem.

After harvesting, farmers carefully remove the outer bark before peeling the inner bark, which is then gently sun-dried. Unlike many producers, they choose not to form cinnamon quills, as this helps reduce contamination and maintain a higher quality spice.

The result is a naturally sweet, citrusy and woody cinnamon with a smooth, delicate flavour. As it melts on the tongue, it releases a gentle sweetness that enhances both sweet and savoury dishes.

Perfect for simmering in stews, curries and rice dishes, or sprinkled over desserts and baked goods, this versatile cinnamon adds warmth and depth to any recipe.

The complex flavour notes of this product include:
Demerara Sugar - Citrus Fruits - Liquorice Root

  1. I gave this to a friend for her morning coffee, and she cannot praise it highly enough.

  2. Very prompt delivery. Having smelled them at a friends, decided that they were perfect Christmas Gifts and a way of supporting people in the Global South who are more vulnerable to the global heating we in the West with are causing.

  3. I didn’t know cinnamon could taste like this! So sweet and fresh, it will dramatically improve my baking!

  4. Warm fresh aroma, really enhanced stewed frozen cherries. A little paler & more coarsely ground than the ‘big brand’
